Although a city break may not seem like an obvious choice of holiday with children, Barcelona offers a whole host of attractions and sights to keep the little ones amused for hours. From the fantastic Park Guell to the awe inspiring Camp Nou stadium – enough to sate the appetite of the most avid football fan – this city is rich in child-friendly activities.
The best area for families to stay in Barcelona apartments in the summer season is the Barceloneta area which is close to the beach and seaside facilities. Barcelona Zoo is natural stopping off point for families and is located in the attractive Ciutadella Park, East of the main tourist centre. Take the metro to Villa OlÃmpica on the yellow line and the Zoo is just a few minutes walk away. If they still have some energy to burn, take a wander around the Parc itself and look out for the giant mammoth, near the spectacular Ciutadella fountains at the top of the park.
Barcelona may be particularly famous for its rich art and architectural heritage, but don’t let this stop the children getting involved. GaudÃ’s enigmatic Park Guell is a fantastical haven for children (and adults) of all ages. Let them sit on the serpent shaped bench up on the main terrace and clamber on the iconic Happy Lizard. This municipal park is free to enter and the ideal playground for children.
